Our march towards Luna goes on! Scratch has reached a high point in its development, so I'm announcing the release of the next version: Scratch 1.1.1.
This version is mainly a bugfix release which improves the previous version (1.1) and also adds a couple new features. While there aren't many visible changes in the UI, the release contains quite a few fixes which makes Scratch an even more powerful and complete text editor. Some of these changes include:
-
Move from Glib to GIO. Editing operations like Open, Save, Rename, etc should be much faster. Moreover, after the GIO migration, Scratch gained support for URI file handling.
-
Many refinements were made to unusual cases like editing a file after it was deleted, editing a file that was modified by another app, dealing with files you don't have permission to edit, and more.
-
Scratch now ships with a Devhelp plugin. Devhelp is an easy tool to consult all the documentation for GNOME's libraries directly from inside the text editor.
-
The Terminal plugin was improved, including the addition of Copy and Paste.
-
The Plugins view in Preferences now shows icons and the About dialog for each plugin is provided by Granite.
-
The Contractor menu is now hidden when there are no Contractor services available for a file.
-
The Preferences dialog received a few small fixes to make it easier to navigate and understand.
-
And many more fixes!
You can get Scratch from our stable PPA, or directly from launchpad here.
you write good

I love scratch but I can't manage to add color pack like gmate for gedit. Is it possible ?
Nice job n.n
Wow, looks real good!
I am writing here as there is no general way to communicate. I downloaded and installed the unstable elementary OS, but it didn't work installed, but as a Live CD it worked. Finally, I installed Pantheon Desktop from elementary Team on Ubuntu 12.04. I am surprised at the speed of response! Marlin File Manager is a beauty. Scratch opens files, which Gedit won't open without being root. I believe, when you come out with Luna, it is going to be a hit!
Any progress, no new build from 2012/07/29 .
I've uploaded a fresh build but even it is not up to speed with the recent (huge) improvements and fixes because Launchpad PPA build system is nearly jammed. I'll build an updated image as soon as things start landing to PPAs again, which might take a few days.
Is the Granite Tabbar planned to be used in Scratch?
Can I get HTML/PHP/JS/CSS suggestions when I am typing? If yes, I wil use it as my default web-things editor.
I would like to see the plugin in the
next version of Scratch, which could
automatically compile the application
without manually entering the
necessary packages :D
can i use it as Vala IDE
you can use euclide (http://launchpad.net/euclide) to make scratch an elementary SDK for Vala and CMake.
where can i get elementary sdk, thanks
http://launchpad.net/euclide
can't not get euclide, pls help me
Really nice work! And will it be open enough to many useful plugins?
Hope to see the OS release soon:)
there is already a plugin system in scratch.
It's always nice to see my favorite text editor is getting better everyday. Now we only need a nice-looking gtksourceview theme to ship along with it :)
Great to hear, good work
Great! When are you implementing granite tabs?
Scratch seems to be coming along great.
If you don't mind a feature request, would it be possible to add a minimap plugin a la sublime text. It tends to be useful when dealing with large code.
Keep up the great work. :D
That really would be cool and very helpfull!
we already have a basically implementation of this. It will be better for the next releases.
Thanks, that's great to hear.
Great job Mefrio, keep it up!
