Is it safe to upgrade to the latest stable Kernel 3.3.0 in Jupiter without breaking X?

I managed to upgrade to Kernel 3.3.0 in Ubuntu 11.10 with no issues, but I'm not so sure it would be the same for an older distro like this. Would it be easy to upgrade the kernel or would it most likely break xorg/ other packages? Just wondering because a lot of performance and driver fixes came with this release.

If you are able to pull of the upgrade. I'd appreciate if you can post instructions. Thanks.
